Revelation: Matthew 8:14-15

Hello and welcome back! I pray all is well on your side of the screen! It’s been a minute, and thanks to Hurricane Milton it’s been an extended minute. Yet just because my house stopped receiving power doesn’t mean I stopped receiving revelation. That being said, I pray this post (and the ones to come) blesses and encourages you as it did me!

While reading my Word I was blessed by two verses I know for a fact I’ve glossed over in the past. For context, Jesus healed Peter’s mother-in-law of a fever with one touch. But wait, it wasn’t just healed, Matthew 8 verse 15 in the NKJV states “So He touched her hand, and the fever left her”. This struck me as something so powerful because not only does it demonstrate the authority of Jesus, but it reminds me of an exterminator. When bugs feel their hiding place is exposed, be it through light or chemicals (Raid spray for example), they flee. So, when the temple, aka our bodies, come into contact with Jesus, it’s like shining a bright, cleansing and Holy light that causes sickness to flee.

An encounter with Jesus causes the temple to be realigned with its original purpose. That includes not being a host to sickness and disease, but the Holy Spirit. It’s His home! Another thing that blessed me was how verse 15 finished. It says, “And she arose and served them”. This woman could’ve done anything after being freed from her fever. Verse 14 says she was “lying sick”, meaning this fever was so bad she was bedridden. Yet once she had the ability and the freedom to move about, she didn’t go out and party. She didn’t go about the normal house chores or show off to her friends or even go back to business as usual. She immediately began to serve the Lord and those with Him.

This, to me, reflects a certain heart posture that speaks of humility and gratitude. How often do we receive something from God, and if we were raised right, we say “thank you”, but go on about our day? What this woman did was model how we ought to operate when we receive a touch from God. We leave the place where we were bound, and we serve the Lord Almighty. We don’t just thank Him with our words, but with our service.

Going forward, when you have an opportunity to serve God, be it through ministry or any other means, think of it as an act of gratitude. When you’re serving someone, let it be like thanksgiving to the Lord. Remember the place He brought you from and allow your praise to take the form of servitude, it’s a great way to stay humble.

I pray this brief revelation blessed you, I highly recommend going ahead and reading the Gospel of Matthew for yourselves. Let me know down below or on my IG which gospel out of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John is your favorite and why.

Until next time

JB
